A few months ago, I wrote about my experience at Trois Mec and I mentioned how I was dying to go to its more casual, neighbor restaurant, Petit Trois. On my last visit to LA, I finally made it happen. We arrived right as they were opening for lunch on a Saturday which was lucky considering the tiny restaurant seats about fifteen people, all bar seating. I knew I wanted to try the omelette here since the chef/owner Ludo is quite famous for it. He even has a youtube video here where he shows his special French technique. We had the steak tartare to start, and also shared the Big Mec cheeseburger (a lot of beef, I know). Everything we ate was absolutely wonderful. But in typical French cuisine, very heavy. I couldn't even finish my portion of the omelette. Surprisingly the side salad on the omelette was light and amazing.
The definite highlight of our trip there was when Ludo himself walked into the restaurant about halfway through our meal! He was preparing for a show he was filming next door at Trois Mec about child chefs. He kept poking his head in the kitchen area and picking pieces of lettuce from the omelette's side salad and eating them with his hands. Pretty funny to watch. We chickened out on talking to him, but maybe next time!
