One of the streets in the old town had all Latin and Spanish restaurants so the first night we ate some amazing tapas! The area is also home to the so-called "longest bar in the world". There are about 260 bars, cafes and breweries in a 1 square kilometer area! Below you can see how packed it gets starting at 4PM with quite an eclectic crowd, and people of all ages. This is what I imagine Oktoberfest would be like, but on a much larger scale. In addition to doing some shopping, we discovered a semi-permanent farmer's market. They had beautiful fruits and vegetables, an awesome floral display, and tons of little restaurants, creperies, and gelato shops. I could have wandered around there all day!
It is also white asparagus season in Germany. This may not be exciting to you, but it is a hugeeee deal here! Majority of restaurants have special asparagus menus for this season that lasts just a few weeks, and I have been taking full advantage. Below you can see the white asparagus in the farmer's market, and one of the dishes I ordered from the special menu on our last night. Yum!
